Pre-1997 Authors of Theses and Dissertations

If you completed a thesis or dissertation at Virginia Tech before 1997, at least one of the copies you submitted to the Graduate School was bound and shelved at Newman Library. We are scanning all the BTDs (Bound Theses and Dissertations) so that more of the research and scholarship produced at Virginia Tech can be accessible online. However, since BTD authors own the copyright to their works, BTDs are only available to the university community—just as if they were in Newman Library, until authors give permission to make them available more widely.

To broaden access to the research and scholarship in the university's BTDs, pre-1997 theses and dissertation authors may share their copyright with the university by sending us this statement:

I hereby grant to Virginia Tech a non-exclusive license to release my [choose one: thesis or dissertation] for worldwide access.

Send this statement in a letter or email with your name, your thesis or dissertation title, and your year of completion to or to
